Greater Norwich Chamber Presents Large Check to The Salvation Army

Proceeds from Norwich Auto Show go back to community!

NORWICH - The Greater Norwich Chamber of Commerce presented a large check to The Salvation Army at a recent March meeting. Dave Wigfield, Chamber Member and Chairman of the Auto Show, addressed the assembled group and thanked them for all of their efforts. He said that the Norwich show has become one of the best and largest antique car shows in New England. He said that it takes many volunteers and a tremendous amount of work to pull off such a topnotch event. The car show will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year and will be held in September (date to be determined) at Dodd Stadium.

Over the years, a substantial amount of money has been raised and then redistributed to local charities. This year, Reliance House and The Salvation Army were chosen as the recipients. Salvation Army Captains and Norwich Corps Officers Jerry and Mindy Uttley were in attendance and received the check. Captain Jerry thanked the Chamber and its members for their generous support, and he said, "It has been a difficult year for the Army in Norwich [still recovering from a fire in their Main Street building last August], but there are many needy individuals that are a lot worse off than we are. They still need our help, and we will continue to serve them. It may be a little more difficult with our temporary home, but this is what we do... we will serve people in need and we could not do it without the help of the local community and groups like the Greater Norwich Chamber of Commerce... and we thank you!"
